Viscosity & Viscoelasticity Measurement System for Fluids: Sun Rheo Meter NRCC Visco-PRO
A New Non-Destructive Viscoelastic Measurement System Using Patented Technology
0.Enables viscoelastic evaluation of fluids with less than 0.5 mm deformation and measurement times under one second. When combined with a rheometer, it allows non-destructive measurement and analysis of the viscoelasticity of non-Newtonian fluids. Even for samples that exhibit syneresis or foaming—making them difficult to measure with a rotational viscometer—this system quantifies viscoelasticity non-destructively, capturing the true rheological behavior of the fluid.

Since the Sun Rheometer is used, it can perform standard compression and tensile tests on solid samples, allowing a single device to handle a wide variety of materials.
No sample pretreatment required; measurements are completed within 1 second.
The non-rotational, micro-displacement measurement method minimizes deformation and structural changes in the material during testing. It enables accurate evaluation of viscoelastic behavior in delicate samples such as foaming or syneresis-prone materials and dispersions.
Standard measurements can be performed with less than 50mL of sample under multiple conditions.

Supports a wide range of material properties, from low to high viscosity, including not only homogeneous materials but also colloids, emulsions, and slurry-type heterogeneous mixed systems.
Utilizes patented technology invented through collaborative research with academic institutions. There are multiple published papers on material property evaluation using this technology.

Measurement is performed by moving the plunger (stage) over a very short distance, enabling instantaneous evaluation of viscosity (or apparent viscosity) and elasticity. By adjusting the plunger speed (shear rate), the system is also capable of measuring non-Newtonian fluid behavior.
The NRCC Visco-PRO geometry, as shown in the diagram below, consists of a cup and a plunger. This geometry is installed on the rheometer for measurement. The sample is placed in the cup, and the plunger is immersed into the sample to a specified depth. Measurement is then conducted by moving the stage a micro-scale distance while the plunger is in contact with the sample.
